I’m That Guy

You know that guy who is in front of you when you’re on the way home from work and he just moseys along without a care in the world? You wonder why he doesn’t go faster, doesn’t he have anything better to do with his time?

I’m that guy. Now that I realize I have more time behind me than I have before me I don’t hurry for anything. Whatever I have to do it can wait until I get there.

Now I’m not saying I intentionally go slow and obstruct others, I just drive the speed limit and enjoy the ride. No reason to stress about anything.

Everyone should be like that. There comes a time when you realize that life is too short to be in a hurry and stressed out. Like the guy who was behind me at the bank drive through the other day.

One of the few things I have to do for my part time job is to go to the bank and make the deposit. I go to the drive through so I don’t have to leave Jack the Super Dog alone in the car.

Well the bank we use just went through a remodel. As part of this they put in a drive up ATM. They placed this on the outside wall before one of the two drive through teller stations, one is a window with a drawer, the other is a vacuum tube.

The problem is if someone is using the drive through someone else can’t use the ATM. I need to go to the window the majority of the time because I have too much stuff to use the tube. And this pissed this guy off.

All he had to do was put his pick up truck in park, get out and walk to the ATM. It wasn’t raining, it wasn’t bitterly cold, it wasn’t a problem.

But no, he had to sit behind me, making gestures, honking the horn until he finally backed up and left. He never went to the ATM. He was really angry that I ruined his day.

It didn’t ruin mine. I just shook my head and thought how sad it is that someone would let something so minor do that.

I’ve learned that (especially now) life is too short to let little things bother me. Especially little things I can’t control. I can only control myself, everything else is beyond my control. Only God has control.
