When I was driving I would ponder all kinds of important things. Things like why do squirrels raise their tails when they are running away from your vehicle? Keep in mind when I was driving I couldn’t use my phone to go online and research these things. After all I was driving. Come to think of it when I was driving I only had a flip phone.

Anyway the other day I was sitting in my recliner next to the window. I have a very scenic view of the dumpster. As I was staring out the window the big blue trash truck came to empty the dumpster.
This got me wondering about something I saw the day before. When I was walking my dog by the same dumpster I saw a cute little face with two eyes surrounded by black rings. Yup there was a raccoon in there.
When the trash dude came I figured that Rocky Racoon was probably gone, but what if he wasn’t? What would happen if he didn’t get out? When the dumpster began to move he would have cowered at the bottom and not have gotten out. This means he would have been dumped into the truck.
Then what? This is what I was thinking about.
Let’s think of the possibilities. Having never having been inside a trash truck I can only speculate as to what the raccoon (or anything else for that matter) would have gone through.
I’ll assume the trash is not so tightly packed where it would crush the creature ( this was a top loader). This means that he would have been able to escape. Did he manage to crawl out while the truck was moving? Perhaps he bailed out on the highway and became road kill. Well technically it wouldn’t be road kill would it?
He may have waited for the truck to stop and then made his break. Let’s say he did this twenty miles from here. How will he be treated by the local raccoons? Will he be accepted or ostracized by others? Will he be bullied?
Therefore assuming he didn’t get crushed when more trash was thrown into the truck and he would have been alive when he got dumped. I remember the day I was dumped by my ex-wife. But I digress.
So what happens to the raccoon? In my mind’s eye I can picture all these stray, orphaned raccoons hanging out at the dump site. Maybe they have a welcoming committee and they are debriefed and assigned to little raccoon houses. Maybe they run into old friends or family members and they catch up with them? I wonder if they sit around and read Gedeon’s bible?
I don’t know what happens to them but maybe I need to call PETA so they can investigate. Perhaps they can file some kind of legislation. How about a ban on dumpsters?
