If You Go Chasing Rabbits

I started thinking about my dog the other day and I wonder what would happen if we had to depend on him for food.

Even though he is some kind of hound dog (he’s a rescue dog so we don’t know what he is) and appears to be a hunter I’m not sure he could ever catch anything .

Our apartment complex is loaded with rabbits. At any given time there will be three or four within eye shot. He will pick one out and very slowly creep up on it. When he gets close the rabbit will naturally hop away. Does Jack chase them? Nope he just goes along his way. It is getting so the rabbits don’t even bother to run more than a few feet. I wouldn’t even classify it as a run.

Then there are the chipmunks. He spots them usually by the big tree in the front. Again he slowly moves towards them and they hurriedly scamper up the tree. These he will chase but here is the problem. They run up the tree and he can’t quite grasp the concept. He thinks that they have run under the parked cars. He will go from car to car looking for them while all the time the chipmunk is in the tree laughing at him.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t want my dog to become crazed baby bunny serial killer but I worry about him surviving in the post apocalyptic world.
