Slowly Coming Out from Under my Rock

The bad thing about living under a rock is occasionally you have to crawl out from under it. And when you do you see things maybe you wish you hadn’t. I have heard about this Karen Read trial but never really paid attention or knew much about it. I knew it involved a dead cop, his girlfriend, a possible conspiracy and a turtle of some kind.

After hearing there was a mistrial declared and some controversy over whether she should be retried I decided to look into it. It seems the jury acquitted her on two of the three charges including the murder charge. The DA wants to retry her on all charges not just the one that was hung up.

Wouldn’t that be double jeopardy? She was acquitted on two of the charges, how can they retry her on those?

I just went back and read about the case and what may have happened and in my opinion it is just another case of a totally messed up judicial system.

I don’t have any opinion on whether she did it or not, the DA claims Read was drunk and backed over her cop boyfriend. She claims he was beaten by some people, including some other cops and thrown out in the snow to freeze to death, then they orchestrated a cover up. There are claims of widespread corruption in the city of Canton. Who knows what else.

Remember the good old days when you could actually trust people in authority, cops, DA’s priests, politicians. Wait let me leave the last group out. Presidents, we could trust presidents, couldn’t we? Maybe not. I do have to thank Bill Clinton for convincing American women that oral wasn’t sex.

So what is going to happen now? Well since the mistrial a State Trooper has gotten suspended, a Canton cop has also been suspended. The Canton newspaper has banned ant letters to the editor discussing Karen Read. The amphibian is trying to get the case against him dismissed. It just goes on and on.

Maybe I’ll crawl back under my rock and start following the upcoming presidential election. That should be easy to understand.
